Webucate is dedicated to collecting and categorizing information about free, online literacy and educative materials. We list those resources in these pages so that any youth or adult having the desire to learn and access to a computer, but no time to pursue a formal education, can access this priceless information here.
Our goal is to operate as a repository of information about free learning materials organized in a cohesive manner so that those in need may use it to supplement gaps in education and be introduced to opportunities they may not be aware existed. The information and educational resources referenced in these pages, if pursued, will improve the chances of disadvantaged youths and adults to acquire some of the skills necessary to enter, participate and compete in today's changing world..
For youths, computers and access to the internet provide tremendous opportunities for basic learning that reinforce reading, math and writing skills, as well as simulate more complex math, science and art projects. Computers also facilitate advanced learning for adults who take the time to search for it.
The problem, however, is that even when people do have access to computers, they are not aware that certain resources exist or, if they do, they have no idea where to start looking for this information. The ultimate result is that the target group is unable, for one reason or the other, to take full advantage of the Internet's ability to facilitate learning.
The goal of this website is to fill this gap. No governmental agency is currently involved with this initiative and it is not expected that such engagement will be pursued in the future.
Why use Computers in Classrooms in developing countries? ...
Access to the Internet is now widely recognized as vital to the development of the tools necessary to participate and compete in the Global Economy. And to that end, there are a number of initiatives that target the needs of those in low income areas. One such entity is Computers For Youth, an organization that improves the home learning environment of low-income school children by establishing learning centers in or near the disadvantaged youths' homes.
